Nightlight

This is a series of long exposure photographs taken in Tripoli, Libya in the summer of 2009 from the rooftops of the city. Many of these images were taken in the Musilm holy month of Ramadan, as such the city was unusually quiet and devoid of people out in public as they were either at home breaking fast with their families or in the Mosques for sunset prayers.

"My favourite time of the day is when the sun has just crossed the western horizon and the spectrum of light changes to wavelengths that are invisible in full sunlight.

Human generated light sources add an unreal, almost computer generated quality to these images. The interplay between natural briefly visible ultraviolet light and the electrical illumination of the cityscape represents a moment in time where the dichotomy of night and day, the natural and the technological is not completely apparent."
